We’re meant to lose the people we love. How else would we know how important they are to us?

Families of the dead only serve to perpetuate the hatred.

“Wars are for the shrewd to profit from and for the poor to die in” — J. P. Morgan

In my lifetime, there has not been a war fought for freedom. It is always for the profit of the rich.

“And I dreamed I saw the bomber jet planes flying shotgun in the sky,
turning into butterflies above the nation” — Joanie Mitchell/CSN

Edward Royce (Sonny) Logston, my friend.

Sonny asked if I wanted to go with him. We were 3-4 months before graduation at Berkeley High, class of ’49. He went, I stayed 4 months longer. We went fishing the day before he was shipped to Japan.

Air Force PFC Ed Logston, no longer “Sonny” was quickly assigned to Korea as a clerk typist but, when the North Koreans stormed South, he was converted to an observer of air strikes. Ed was among those captured then turned over to the Chinese for a long march North. Along the way, Ed was shot and killed by his captors.(documented)

He was 19, never had a serious relationship, never had the opportunity to marry and be a father. He was just a kid, a kid like me, but not nearly as lucky.
