have not told us how they plan to close these fatal gaps.

Any time someone tries to buy a gun from a
licensed dealer, they have to undergo a background check. But most states have
failed to report so many mental health records to the database that these checks
are alarmingly incomplete.
Why is this important? It was these very gaps
that allowed a young man who’d been declared mentally ill by a court to pass a
background check, buy guns and take 32 lives at Virginia Tech.
