Celebrating Palestinian Children’s Day

April 5, 2012

Dear Friend,

Today we ask you to join us in celebrating Palestinian Children’s Day, which falls annually on April 5th. Thousands of children in the West Bank and Gaza commemorated the day with rallies calling for the protection of their rights to freedom, security, education, healthcare, and play.

According to news reports, children in Southern Hebron and Ramallah marched while chanting slogans demanding an end to Israeli occupation and its discriminatory policies against them. Many speakers also addressed the suffering of Palestinian children who have been equal targets of Israeli aggression: facing arrests, torture, restrictions on movement, and death. During Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza in 2008-2009, 37% of the victims were children.

For nearly 25 years, the Middle East Children’s Alliance has supported the children of Palestine and their right to clean water, education, medicine, and play. Whenever they’ve cried for help, we’ve done our absolute best to respond immediately. But we couldn’t do any of it without your important contribution.

On today’s occasion, the children emphasized their desire to have a normal childhood and called on the international community to support their ability–and right–to live and play freely like children everywhere. Please allow us to mark Palestinian Children’s Day by redoubling our efforts and commitment to the children of Palestine.
