Noam Chomsky to Chris Hedges: ‘Everywhere You Look, There’s Public Subsidy’ (Video)

Quote from Gore Vidal “What we have in this country is socialism for the rich and free enterprise for the poor.”

The ruling class spent decades destroying unions, initiating austerity programs, eliminating class consciousness and replacing it with apathy for thesingle purpose of creating an uninformed public which would act against its own interests.
And lo and behold they were were successful.

Both political parties represent the interests of the wealthy and NOT the working-class, middle-class or poor. Both political parties promote military interventions, but neglect to discuss these wars when they’re campaigning for office. And both political parties are eager recipients of the largess of corrupt lobbyists who brazenly write their own legislation to further rip off the public.

Recognize that only a minority of workers are unionized, and the rest have accepted the folly of “Right to Work,” since the only other option is unemployment. As predicted by various think tanks, once the population lost its political consciousness and became incessantly occupied with a multitude of technological diversions, they would become a pliable mass willing to accept whatever was dished out.

In the second part of renowned intellectual Noam Chomsky’s recent conversation about his latest book, “Requiem for the American Dream,” with Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges, the author explains how the banking, fossil fuel and tech sectors all profit immensely from taxpayer dollars. They also discuss a range of topics including the importance of political solidarity and the damage that gerrymandering has done to American democracy.
