U.S. military aid to Israel is enabling the Israeli military’s systematic abuse of Palestinian children

Dear The McGlynn

Eight weeks ago a team of fully-armed Israeli soldiers descended on a Palestinian elementary school.

Their target: a nine year old boy named Zein. He was taken away… but not before the soldiers threatened to break his teacher’s arm.*

The Israeli military’s treatment of Palestinian children is horrific: chokeholds, forced detention, violent interrogation and more.

It’s state-sanctioned systemic child ABUSE – and that’s why Rep. Betty McCollum’s historic legislation is so vitally important.

Her bill would ban Israel from using any of the $3.8 BILLION in U.S. aid to pay for the detention, interrogation, or torture of Palestinian children. The historic bill also raises awareness about the ongoing repression and horrible treatment of all Palestinians under military occupation funded by U.S. dollars.

In days we’re taking out an ad to build support, and we need to raise $10,000 in the next 48 hours to secure the spot.

Since the year 2000, 10,000 Palestinian children between the ages of 12 and 17 have been detained, prosecuted and incarcerated by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank.

They’re picked up in the middle of the night, handcuffed and blindfolded, and interrogated – often violently – without any adults present.

It is beyond what any child should have to withstand, and any person with an ounce of compassion would be outraged and sickened by it all.

It is unconscionable that U.S. military aid to Israel is enabling the Israeli military’s systematic abuse of Palestinian children – and Rep. Betty McCollum’s bill is how we can stop it.

There’s unprecedented political support in Congress to stop putting Palestinian kids in cages.

How a society treats children is a reflection of how it values human life at all. Israel’s treatment of Palestinian children is a reflection of the deepest disregard of the humanity of Palestinians.

Thanks for all you do,
